Gotama Building Engineers was asked to oversee the mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for a new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility for Advanced Bionics, a division of Boston Scientific. The 200,000 sq. ft. facility is located on a 63-acre campus in Valencia , where the firm does research and manufacture of bionic neuro-stimulation devices, such as cochlear implants for the hearing impaired. This new building includes clean rooms, testing and research laboratories, offices, warehousing, a cafeteria and kitchen, packaging and loading dock for shipping. Designed with considerable on-site construction support to maintain the client’s fast-track schedule, this project will be completed by Spring of 2007.
As a sister project to Medtronic Minimed in Northridge, this project will condense the operations of 3 existing facilities located in Sylmar , California . With an eye toward sustainability, this new building has a number of high-efficiency and water-saving features, such as a high-performance envelope and HVAC, high-efficiency lighting, air handler condensate reclamation for the cooling tower makeup, and waterless urinals.
Some of the specifics include:
- 1,200 tons initial cooling capacity
- 4 – 60,000 cfm air handlers for the clean room and 8 additional units for the office/lab/general areas, all located on the roof
