Winner of the 2005 Award of Excellence, Office/Commercial Development, by the California Redevelopment Association (CRA), Gotama Building Engineers was the overall MEP design engineering firm for this mixed-use project. The West Hollywood Gateway consists of 257,000 sq. ft. of retail, office and restaurants on 2 levels and more than 1,000 parking spaces on 2 subterranean levels. Anchored by large retailers, Target and Best Buy, other retailers include Starbucks, Baja Fresh, Ben & Jerry’s, Daphne's Greek Café, Beverages and More, and Cingular Wireless.
In creating the overall systems design for this retail center, Gotama Building Engineers worked closely with the developer and the tenants on establishing power and systems connectivity that would best integrate with the individual needs of the tenants. Individual electrical panels and meters, in addition to stubbed out piping, were designed to each retail space, enabling the property manager to lease the space with discrete utility supply. Through the careful coordination of electrical, plumbing and HVAC with the tenants’ often standardized requirements, they were able to successfully facilitate the build-out and occupancy with a minimum of problems.
This $70 million project is the largest redevelopment project in West Hollywood to date.
