Gotama Building Engineers was hired at the W Hotel in Westwood to redesign systems for a renovation and addition to the lobby bar, the dining room and kitchen for their restaurant, Nine-Thirty.
The hotel, originally opened in 2000, was interested in updating the look and amenities of their fine dining and lounge area after a number of years of usage. The design team worked to create a more streamlined look with stainless steel appliances and door finishes, and bamboo and wood furnishings. The engineering design required to supply the new fixtures and layout included relocating equipment and electrical outlets, adding drains, sprinklering and exhausts; upgrading the air handling system and hydronic heating system for HVAC; and electrical power for specialized lighting features. In addition, a new sound system with speakers and low-light security cameras were connected to the owner’s specifications.
The engineers coordinated with a kitchen design consultant specifically hired by the hotel in order to upgrade the work areas and appliances. Many of the existing features such as the standing sink remained in place, while new plumbing, exhausts and ventilation were installed.
