Marina del Rey, CA – The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) was presented a Savings By Design Award for adopting and implementing sustainable energy principles at its nine colleges by the Southern California Gas Company at their first-ever Energy Efficiency Expo on March 14th, 2006.

Accepted by LACCD Trustee Nancy Pearlman on behalf of the District, she stated “LACCD is deeply committed to adopting energy efficiency technologies and principles to the greatest extent possible.  We also recognize that there are plenty of other benefits from energy efficiency, such as protecting the environment and saving our natural resources.  We’re also finding that energy-efficient buildings offer greater comfort, which provides a better learning environment for students.”  

Among the 14-plus buildings included in the Savings By Design program are several whose energy-efficient building systems were designed by the LEED-accredited engineers of Gotama Building Engineers, Inc.; they are Pierce College Student Services Building, Pierce College South of Mall Building Improvements, West Los Angeles College Student Services Building, West Los Angeles College Classroom Building and East Los Angeles College Administration Buildings.
