Marina del Rey, CA – The Exposition Metro Line Construction Authority Board of Directors has approved a $420.2 million design/build contract to be awarded to the FCI Constructors/ Fluor Corp./ Parsons Corp. Joint Venture, the official start of the Mid-City/ Exposition Light Rail project, an 8.5 mile light-rail line beginning in downtown Los Angeles, proceeding west on the MTA-owned right-of-way on Exposition Boulevard with a terminus at Washington and National Boulevards in Culver City.

The Chief Executive Office of the Board, Rick Thorpe, stated, “We believe that we truly have brought on board the best joint venture construction and design team that will ensure that this transportation project is built on time and within budget.”   Mr. Thorpe has also been empowered by the Board to issue a Notice to Proceed (NTP) for the design and professional services scope of work once plans have been submitted and approved in an amount not to exceed $77,757,000.

The members of the design team, including Gotama Building Engineers, Inc., will begin design on the first phase of the project, consisting of 13 passenger stations (two of which are on the existing Metro Blue Line at 7th St./Metro Center and Pico/Chick Hearn), three park-and-ride lots, bicycle lanes and one tunnel near the University of Southern California (USC), with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of 2007 and completion in 2009.
